Head Lifeguard

About the Role
The Head Lifeguard supports the Club Manager as the frontline leader for pool operations, combining administrative, supervisory, and on-deck duties to maintain the highest standards of safety, professionalism, and member service. This role strengthens safety oversight, coordinates staff training and scheduling, and helps lighten the administrative workload of the Club Manager.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Experience: Minimum two years of professional lifeguarding; leadership or head guard experience preferred.

  • Certifications: Current American Red Cross Lifeguarding, First Aid, and CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer.

  • Leadership & Professionalism: Proven ability to lead teams, foster collaboration, and manage conflict effectively.

  • Communication: Clear, confident, and respectful communicator with staff and members.

  • Administrative Skills: Skilled in recordkeeping, scheduling, and operational organization.

  • Availability: Must be available most weekends during the season (early May–Labor Day); preference for candidates available through September.

Key Responsibilities

  • Staff Leadership: Assist with recruiting, training, and supervising approximately 17 lifeguards; manage schedules, duties, and shift coverage.

  • Safety & Emergency Response: Enforce rules; lead rescues and first aid/CPR as needed; conduct regular emergency drills.

  • Operations & Maintenance: Inspect pool areas, equipment, and water quality; ensure facility cleanliness and safety standards.

  • Administrative Support: Maintain logs, certifications, and incident reports; assist with guard scheduling, swim lesson registration, and training coordination.

  • Member Relations: Provide professional, friendly service; resolve member concerns respectfully; model PLC’s community values.

Compensation

  • Rate: $24.00 per hour

  • Private Lessons: Optional, $30/hour (typically 30-minute sessions)

Typical Schedule

May–Late June:

  • Weekday - Three shifts (2–4 hrs each)

  • Weekend - Two shifts (6 hrs each)

Late June–August:

  • Weekday - Three shifts (4 hrs each)

  • Weekend - Two shifts (6 hrs each)

September:

  • Two shifts (6 hrs each)

Phantom Lifeguard

About the role

We hire trustworthy leaders who want to make positive connections with our members and program participants, have a keen eye for safety, and set the tone for a safe environment for kids and families. You will play a key role in supporting our safety standards – in the water and on the deck, as a first responder in emergencies, maintaining safety equipment, and serving on an engaged and dynamic team. 

PLC is committed to providing a positive atmosphere that prioritizes safety and inclusivity for all employees. PLC has implemented safety standards and protocols related to preventative health measures based on CDC and local health department guidelines. 

Lifeguards are paid $19/hr.

Responsibilities: 

  • Assists with maintaining safe swimming conditions in the pool, on deck and surrounding areas. Prevents accidents by maintaining constant observation of the pool area, enforcing health and safety rules and maintaining emergency readiness.

  • Required to rescue persons in distress or in danger of drowning, administer first aid in the event of injury.

  • Develops positive relationships with participants and parents.

  • Attends staff meetings and trainings as required.

  • Knows/reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with policies. Completes related reports as required.

  • Performs equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as needed.

  • Performs routine maintenance of the pool and surrounding areas to ensure cleanliness.

  • Assists in water quality testing, cleaning, and maintaining the pool and related facilities.

  • Checks pool and rescue equipment and promptly reports any problems.

  • Maintains aquatic program areas and equipment with a high attention to cleanliness and safety.

  • Respond to questions or situations in person or over the phone.

  • Ability to maintain certification-level of physical and mental readiness.

  • Must be observant and able to react calmly, quickly and with good judgment in an emergency.

  • Willing to work 15- 20 hours a week.

  • Opportunities for up to 40 hours a week.

Qualifications:

  • You are at least 15 years of age and have:

  • American Red Cross (ARC) approved certification for: Lifeguard Training, First Aid, and CPR/AED for the Lifeguard. Certification is good for 2 years.

Phantom Head Coach (Application Deadline Sunday January 4)

Job Skills Required

Coaching Experience

  • Minimum 3+ years of coaching experience with a summer, high school, or year-round competitive swim team.

  • Proven ability to design and articulate a complete swim season, including practice progression, meet preparation, and team development.

  • Experience managing or mentoring assistant coaches or comparable leadership experience supervising staff.

  • Strong technical knowledge of all four competitive strokes, turns, starts, and diving fundamentals.

  • Familiarity with Midlakes Swim League or similar youth swim league formats preferred.

Leadership

  • Demonstrated ability to set and maintain professional standards for behavior, safety, and sportsmanship.

  • Experience leading teams with mutual respect, fairness, and integrity toward swimmers, parents, and fellow coaches.

Job Duties

Scheduling

  • Collaborate with the Club Manager and Swim Team Liaison to finalize and communicate all practice, meet, and social event schedules.

  • Promptly communicate any changes or cancellations.

Staff Coordination

  • Meet with the Swim Team Liaison before the season to align on expectations, goals, and logistics.

  • Lead the start-of-season coaches’ meeting and set clear expectations for professionalism and teamwork.

  • Hold weekly coaching staff meetings and coordinate with the Volunteer Coordinator and Swim Team Liaison.

  • Mentor assistant coaches and provide consistent feedback and development support.

Practice Planning

  • Develop a comprehensive season-long practice framework, including skill progression and dryland routines.

  • Ensure practices are organized, inclusive, and age-appropriate

  • Balance technique, endurance, and fun to maintain strong engagement and skill growth across all levels.

Meet Administration

  • Oversee all meet entries and relay strategies; serve as the team’s subject matter expert (SME) for Swimmingly.

Communication

  • Attend all relevant parent, board, and Midlakes meetings.

Compliance

  • Ensure all staff, swimmers, and parents meet SafeSport, concussion, and medical requirements.

  • Maintain accurate certification documentation for all coaches.

Awards

  • Lead the end-of-season awards process in collaboration with assistant coaches.

  • Make final decisions for Swimmer of the Year and Coach’s Award based on team values and performance.

Accountability

  • Provide regular progress updates at board meetings.

  • Conduct pre-, mid-, and post-season reviews with the Swim Team Liaison/Board President.

  • Present a 2026 season review at the September board meeting with recommendations for future improvement.

  • Hold individual meetings with coaching staff for feedback and development planning.

Compensation – Head Coach

  • Salary: $9,000 for the season (approx. 345–360 total hours)

  • Practices: ~150 hours

  • Meets (including Distance Meet): ~70 hours

  • Social Events: ~15–20 hours

  • Administrative Work (in-season): ~100 hours (~10 hrs/week)

  • Pre/Post Season Planning: ~20–30 hours

  • Private Lessons: Additional earnings available ($30/hour, typically 30-minute sessions), scheduled through the Club Manager.


Phantom Coach (Application Deadline Sunday February 1)

  • Strong understanding of competitive swimming fundamentals (all four strokes, turns, starts, and race strategies).

  • Previous coaching experience preferred; experience teaching swim lessons also valued.

  • Communicate any scheduling conflicts early to the Head Coach.

  • Participate in weekly coaches’ meetings to review progress and logistics.

Professional Conduct & Compliance

  • Treat all swimmers, coaches, parents, and volunteers respectfully.

  • Maintain all required certifications and follow SafeSport and medical safety guidelines.

Compensation & Additional Opportunities

  • Salary: $5,500 for the full 10-week season.

  • Partial Availability: Salary prorated for shorter commitments.

  • Priority: Given to applicants available for most of the season.

Mini Phantoms Coach

Program Overview

  • Mini Phantoms returns in 2026 as a bridge between swim lessons and the full swim team.

  • Practices 2–3 times per week, depending on schedule and staffing.

  • May be a standalone role or combined with a Phantom Coach position (Head Coach not eligible).

  • Designed for swimmers around age 5+ who are not yet ready to swim 25 yards consistently.

  • Goal: Provide a safe, fun, and confidence-building introduction to swim team life.

Job Skills Required

Coaching Experience

  • Experience teaching swim lessons and/or coaching on a competitive or recreational team.

  • Ability to work with young swimmers to ensure safety, engagement, and confidence in the water.

  • Capable of planning for a wide range of skill levels and adjusting instruction accordingly.

  • Prepare swimmers for home meet exhibition swims (approx. 5:50 p.m.).

  • If over 5 swimmers are enrolled, coordinate volunteers or additional coach support (compensated at standard rate).

  • Coordinate support as well as be in the water at meets for swimmers requiring additional support.

  • Salary: $1,000 for a 9-week season.

Dive Coaches

 

Job Summary 

We are looking for trustworthy Dive Coaches who want to make positive connections with our members and program participants.

Responsibilities: 

  • Encourage and support athletes of all skill level.

  • Promote the sport of dive using encouragement, good sportsmanship, and fun.

  • Attend and be on time to all practices. Arrive 5-10 minutes early to set up beforehand and stay a few minutes afterward to put away and clean any equipment (mats/chairs/dive rails).

  • Practice times TBD in 40 minute slots Mon-Fri from mid-June through end of July. (Timing includes 10 minutes dry land training prior to each group’s diving board practice session).

  • Find a substitute dive coach (must be CPR/First Aid certified, and SafeSport trained) if you cannot attend practice. If no substitute is available, then work with the Teams Manager and Club Manager to discuss alternate practice plan or cancelation notification.

  • Work with the Teams Manager and Club Manager to schedule any pre-season practices.

  • Attend all meets, typically Monday and Wednesday evenings. Prepare dive selection and competition sheets for all competing athletes.

  • Adhere to the Midlakes Dive Operating Plan https://www.gomotionapp.com/team/reclmslwa/page/diving.

  • Attend Mandatory Coaches Meetings (pre-season and championships) as required.

  • Attend Midlakes Dive Championship Meets.

  • Attend season-end awards banquet, date to be determined based on upper pool deck availability.

  • SafeSport Training

  • At least 3 years of high school dive

  • Ability to work with all levels of divers from novice to proficient

· Participate in preseason clinics, exhibition games, and promotional events as required (a maximum of 3).

· Attend all practices and games for your assigned age group. Any exceptions must be pre-approved and arrangements made before the season starts. PLC coaches may substitute for one another.

· Arrive 15 minutes before practices, supervise equipment set up, and take care of any administrative duties. In the event of an unforeseen situation e.g., sickness, personal emergency, please reach out to the Parent Rep ASAP.

· Structure practice plans for the benefit of recreational level players.

· Learn the names of all players and seek to support their individual skills development.

· Maintain a positive attitude about all players, regardless of age or ability.

· Remain on deck during all practices.

· Attend all games:

  • Arrival: Arrive 15 minutes before away games. Arrive 30 minutes before home games to ensure that the pool and equipment are properly set up.

  • General: Model good sportsmanship and provide positive feedback and encouragement.

  • Playing time: Make every attempt to distribute playing time evenly. During tournaments and championship games, structure playing time to allow greater chances for winning, while making sure all players get to play.

  • Playing up: invite players to play up one age group level when extra players are needed. Players who are playing up may not receive equal playing time as preference is given to players in their assigned age level. Players who have completed their senior year of high school will be given priority, as that will be their last season to play.

  • End of Season Banquet: be prepared to make positive comments about each player at the end of season awards banquet. Parent Rep may procure an end of season memento for players to commemorate the season if time and budget allow.

Administrative Responsibilities

· Attend a mandatory Midlakes Water Polo coaching and rules clinic.

· Attend mandatory Midlakes Water Polo Preseason Coaches Meeting and Championship Tournament Coaches Meeting.

· Discuss number of teams PLC will host with Parent Reps after registrations have been processed, and before Midlakes Water Polo coaches meeting.

· Turn in copies of required coaching certifications (lifeguard training OR coach’s safety training). Proof of certification will be on file with the Club Manager.

· Complete Annual Safesport online training. Coaches will adhere to Safesport guidelines. Cost of training will be reimbursed by Phantom Lake Club. (https://uscenterforsafesport.org) 90 minute online training/$20/1 year certification

· Work with the Parent Rep to ensure that all players attending practices and games have registered and paid.

· Post sign-up sheet for games by age-level, at least 2 days before games, and contact players who will be needed to play up, if necessary.

· Communicate with player families as needed. This can include, but is not limited to, player availability for games, schedule changes, behavioral issues, coaching plans and philosophy. If any challenges arise with family communication, please contact the Parent Rep for guidance and support. · Be familiar with contents of the Midlakes Water Polo Operating Plan

· Regular Season: Maintain an official team roster of all players participating in the Regular Season. Roster must include first and last names, date of birth, competition age, and gender for each player. Submit team roster to the Water Polo Communications Director (WPCD) by the Monday following the first week of games. Keep the roster up to date throughout the season.

· Championship: (1) Submit Championship Team Roster to WPCD and the Tournament Director at Championship Tournament Coaches Meeting. Roster must include first and last names, date of birth, competition age, and gender for each player, including any players who may “play up.” Team will not be eligible to compete until the roster has been submitted. (2) Communicate any forfeits or factors that affect competition in a timely and forthright manner. (3) Provide accurate and reliable contact information to the WPCD for communication purposes.

Qualifications:

At least 16 years old. Coaches will ideally be at least 1 age group level older than the players they are coaching.

  • Current Red Cross Lifeguard Certification.

  • Safesport Certified (required after hire date and before first clinic).

  • At least 2 years’ experience playing water polo on a high school team or club team is mandatory. College-level playing experience is preferred. 1-2 seasons as a coach or assistant coach are preferred. If a candidate has minimal coaching experience, weekly mentoring will be arranged.

  • Demonstration of positive sportsmanship, commitment to teamwork, and a skills-development mind set are required.

  • Provide contact information for 2 character or professional references from persons without a family relationship to the applicant.

Swim Instructors

Group and private lessons

 

Job Summary:

We hire responsible leaders in private swim instruction to teach the joy of swimming to children. Instructors need to be able to command a class of 3-6 participants, ages 3 and up, through swim instruction and have the flexibility to teach multiple levels of instruction. Instructors keep the safety of participants at the forefront of lessons while teaching participants to thrive in an aquatic environment.

Swim Instructors are paid $25/hr.

Responsibilities: 

  • A swimming instructor’s main duty is to provide quality swimming instruction and water safety training.

  • Must be ready to start work when scheduled with all the equipment set up

  • Know, enforce, and adhere to all facility rules and regulations

  • Keep eyes, ears, and mind on the students at all times when on duty

  • Maintain a positive and professional image, attitude and work ethic

  • Understand and be prepared to follow emergency procedures including writing detailed reports of all incidents

  • Excellent listening and interpersonal skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Time management and organizational skills

  • Clean up after classes

  • Maintain regular, reliable, and punctual attendance

Qualifications:

Volunteer Coordinator

Volunteer Coordinator

About the Role
Phantom Lake Club is seeking a dedicated and organized Volunteer Coordinator to support and strengthen our community across all three summer sports—Swim, Dive, and Water Polo.

This role is the next evolution of our former Team Manager position and focuses entirely on volunteer coordination, engagement, and recognition. Working closely with the Head Coaches and Board Liaisons for each sport, the Volunteer Coordinator ensures that all volunteer roles are filled, families feel supported, and team operations run smoothly throughout the season.

This is a stipend position ($2,500) recognizing the significant time commitment and leadership the role requires.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Strong organizational and communication skills.

  • Experience coordinating teams or volunteers preferred.

  • Ability to stay calm and positive under pressure during busy events.

  • Familiarity with Signup Genius or similar online scheduling tools.

  • Commitment to the full summer season (May–August).

Key Responsibilities

Preseason (January–April)

  • Develop and launch a centralized volunteer calendar (e.g., Signup Genius).

  • Publish a master list of volunteer roles for meets, events, and club needs.

  • Recruit and assign event chairs (e.g., banquet, concessions, tie-dye, social events).

  • Pair new families with returning “mentor” families to support engagement and onboarding.

In-Season (May–July)

  • Manage volunteer check-in at all meets and club events.

  • Track and log family volunteer hours; share weekly updates.

  • Send volunteer reminders, thank-yous, and recognition messages.

  • Troubleshoot unfilled roles and work with the Swim Team Board Liaison for coverage as needed.

  • Highlight and recognize a “Volunteer of the Week” and ensure all volunteers are acknowledged at the end-of-season banquet.

Post-Season (August)

  • Submit a volunteer summary report to the Board, outlining participation rates, success stories, and recommendations for improvement.

Compensation

  • Seasonal stipend: $2,500 (in recognition of the significant time and leadership commitment)
