Phantom Lake offers affordable, high-quality and small group Swim lessons in Bellevue.
Our group swim lessons are designed for kids ages 3–15, with small class sizes and clear levels for every ability. Younger swimmers focus on water safety and confidence, while older swimmers refine their strokes, breathing, and endurance as they progress.

Dakota Stern
Swim InstructorDakota is a trusted and experienced swim instructor who has been teaching at Phantom Lake Club for over four years and also coaches the swim team. She is especially well known for her calm, patient demeanor with young swimmers who may feel hesitant or nervous around the water, helping them build confidence at their own pace in a safe, supportive environment. Dakota is currently attending Western Washington University in the Honors Program, where she is pursuing a degree in Elementary Education and Spanish. Dakota is a captain on the club water polo team at Western. Dakota brings both a strong understanding of child development and a love of aquatic sports to every lesson.
Swim InstructorElle Pratt
Elle serves as Head Lifeguard, bringing extensive aquatics leadership experience and a strong commitment to safety and professionalism. She has previously worked as a lifeguard and as Director of Aquatics at 425 Fitness, where she oversaw daily pool operations, trained and supervised lifeguards and instructors, and ensured compliance with safety protocols. Known for her clear communication, sound judgment, and calm presence in high-pressure situations, Elle helps create a safe, well-run environment for both staff and members. She is currently a student at Gonzaga University pursuing a degree in Finance & Accounting with a minor in Public Relations.

Level Descriptions
Level 1
Prerequisites:
At least 3 years old
Comfortable being in the water without parents
Potty trained or wearing a swim diaper
Skills that will be taught:
Blowing bubbles through the nose and mouth
Submerging unassisted for 5 seconds
Relaxed front floating unassisted for 5 seconds
Relaxed back floating unassisted for 5 seconds
Climbing in and out of the pool unassisted
Level 2
Prerequisites:
Blowing bubbles through the nose and mouth
Submerging unassisted for 5 seconds
Front floating unassisted for 5 seconds
Back floating unassisted for 5 seconds
Climbing in and out of the pool assisted
Skills that will be taught:
Streamline glide
Kicking with equipment unassisted
Jump into the water unassisted
Retrieving objects under water
Climbing in and out of the pool unassisted
Level 3
Prerequisites:
Streamline glide for at least 3 feet
Kicking with equipment unassisted for at least 5 feet
Jump into the water unassisted
Retrieving objects under water
Climbing in and out of the pool assisted
Skills that will be taught:
Bobs and breath control (blowing bubbles and taking breaths)
Streamline kicking from the wall to the flags without breathing. The body must remain horizontal, the feet will remain at the surface, the eyes will remain looking down, and the arms will be in streamline position.
Catch-up freestyle from the wall to the flags without breathing. The body must remain horizontal, the feet will remain at the surface, the eyes will remain looking down, and the arm movement will be controlled.
Kicking on the back from the walls to the flags. The body must remain horizontal, the feet will remain at the surface, the head will remain still, and the arms will be at their side.
Level 4
Prerequisites:
Catch-up freestyle from the wall to the flags without breathing. The body must remain horizontal, the feet will remain at the surface, the eyes will remain looking down, and the arm movement will be controlled.
Kicking on the back from the walls to the flags. The body must remain horizontal, the feet will remain at the surface, the head will remain still, and the arms will be at their side.
Skills that will be taught:
Side kicking from the wall to the flags. The body must remain horizontal, the feet will remain at the surface, head will remain flat with one ear in the water, and breathing will be relaxed and controlled. The arm on the leg will be relaxed and not be used to keep afloat.
Side breath rotation from the wall to the flags. The body must remain horizontal, the feet will remain at the surface, head will remain flat with one ear in the water when taking a breath, the eyes will remain down when the face is in the water, they will blow bubbles when the face is in the water, and breathing will be relaxed and controlled. The arm on the leg will be relaxed and not be used to keep afloat.

Hesitation backstroke one length of the pool. The body must remain horizontal, the feet will remain at the surface, the head will remain still, one arm will be on the leg and the other above the head touching the ear. Every 1 to 2 seconds the arms will switch positions in an efficient and controlled manner.
Skills that will be taught:
Butterfly body movement of shoulder, hips, feet
Butterfly arms
Butterfly timing
Butterfly one length of the pool with the proper body motion of arms, hips, feet, kick. The body should be moving in a smooth, controlled manner, eyes should be down, feet should remain together throughout the stroke, arm motion should be smooth and controlled, and palms should be facing up during the recovery.
Breaststroke kick
Sculling using an “I – Y” motion
Breaststroke one length of the pool with proper timing of breathe-pull-kick-glide. Body should remain at or near the surface, eyes should be down when the head is in the water, the head should remain stationary when breathing, the pull should not pass the chest, the feet should have toes pointed out and move at the same time within the same plane, and the body should return to a streamline position before the next cycle begins.
Catch-up freestyle with bilateral breathing (taking a breath every third stroke) two lengths of the pool. The body must remain horizontal, the feet will remain at the surface, head will remain flat with one ear in the water when taking a breath, the eyes will remain down when the face is in the water, they will blow bubbles when the face is in the water, breathing will be relaxed and controlled, and the arm movement will be controlled.
Backstroke two lengths of the pool. The body must remain horizontal, the feet will remain at the surface, the head will remain still, one arm will be on the leg and the other above the head touching the ear. The arms will switch positions constantly in an efficient and controlled manner.

Phantom Lake Club is a family-friendly swim and recreation club located in Bellevue, WA.
We offer group and private swim lessons, swim/dive/water polo teams, social activities, and a warm community atmosphere.
Group lessons are open to everyone, members and non-members, and many families start with lessons before joining as members.

No, PLC is a summer-only pool. Our season runs from Mid-May to end of September and we offer lessons only during that time.

We do have a heated outdoor pool in which all lessons are conducted.

In levels 1-3 we only have up to 3 swimmers.
in levels 4&5 we keep the class size to a maximum of 6 swimmers.

Young beginners often struggle to stay engaged for a full 30-minute lesson. Shorter, focused instructionhelps build confidence without overwhelm. Families are encouraged to enjoy additional time in the baby pool afterward for parent-supervised play, perfect for reinforcing new skills in a fun, low-pressure way.

For our small group lessons, you do not need to be a member.
Private lessons are only offered to members though.

We offer small group swim lessons and private swim lessons.
Small group swim lessons: Open to everyone, small class sizes, level specific curriculum on a fixed schedule, typically 5 sessions per class.
Private lessons: only available to members, no fixed schedule, maximum flexibility tailored to your swimmer

Yes! We’re happy to help place your swimmer in the correct level at any time

Once a session begins, we can't offer refunds, but we’re happy to help move your swimmer to a different class or time if capacity allows.
Generally, we do not offer make up dates if you can’t make one of the classes.
Private Lessons
Private Lessons are only available to Phantom Lake Club Members and are organized directly with the instructors.
